Barbara Kissam, MD

Dr. Barbara Kissam is a board certified developmental and behavioral pediatrician who is trained to evaluate, counsel, and provide treatment for children adolescents and their families with a wide range of challenges including learning disorders, attention and behavioral disorders, regulatory disorders, developmental disabilities, and behavioral and mental health challenges. She has been practicing for more than 15 years and understands that children’s development and behavior happens first and fore most in the context of the family. Her belief is that everyone has strengths and struggles ( children and adults) and works to problem solve solutions for the challenges they are facing at home and school. Her passion stems from being both a physician and a mother of three children who have varied diagnoses such as Asperger’s, ADHD, sensory integration difficulties, dyslexia, developmental delays from being a NICU grad, and anxiety.. She has spent the majority of her personal and professional career advocating and caring for children with similar issues. She has served on various boards such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society for Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, Easter Seals Society, Special Olympics, Sensory Solutions and Head Start. Dr. Kissam recognizes the journey most families are on in dealing with children with developmental and behavioral challenges and the struggles along the way in seeking comprehensive care and services their children need to reach their full potential. Dr. Kissam returns to North Carolina where she was born to be closer to family and bring her expertise and passion to families in Charlotte and surrounding areas.
